Arash Jafari In prison

Arash Jafari is an Iranian social media activist serving a one-year prison sentence in Evin Prison.

Ebrahim Allahbakhshi published Jafari’s sentences, which were issued by a court in Qom, on Twitter on September 26, 2021, announcing Jafri’s arrest and imprisonment.

Jafari, who had been posting critical statements on Twitter, was sentenced by Mohsen Motahari Nejad, a judge of Branch 113 of the Qom Criminal Court, to one year in prison and a fine of three million tomans for “disturbing public opinion by spreading lies” through his “social media activists.”

A relative of Jafari told Journalism is Not a Crime that Jafari was arrested by intelligence agents on September 25, 2021, at the home of a friend in Qom and was transferred to Qom Prison.

In the post published by Allahbakhshi, in one of the verdicts issued by the Third Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Qom, Jafari was sentenced to 8 months imprisonment on charges of "propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran" and to 16 months imprisonment on charges of "insulting the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran."

Neither of the two verdicts issued by the judges of Qom state the exact reason for the accusations or the objectionable tweets, and the "reports of the Qom County Intelligence Office" were used as the basis for the issuance of the charges.
