Alikordi was arrested by Mashhad Intelligence Service on April 22, 2020, on two initial charges: "forming and running the Telegram Group 'Hope, Awareness and Freedom' with the intent to overthrow the Islamic Republic" and "propaganda against the Islamic Republic."

He was interrogated for more than 30 days in solitary confinement in a detention center operated by the Mashhad Intelligence Service. His case was reviewed in Branch 903 of the Revolutionary Court and referred to the Fourth Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Mashhad for a verdict.

The verdict sentenced Alikordi to six years and six months in prison for forming and running the Telegram Group “Hope, Awareness and Freedom” with the intent of overthrowing the government. He was also sentenced to eight months in prison for propaganda against the Islamic Republic, and to one year and five months in prison for insulting the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.

As a supplementary punishment, the court also sentenced Alikordi to a two-year ban from working in universities and other educational institutions, leaving the country and holding membership of political parties and social groups.

Following an appeal, the sentence was reviewed in Branch 37 of the Court of Appeals in Khorasan Razavi Province, and the court reduced the sentence from six years and six months to two years in prison. Other sentences were approved by the Court of Appeals.

According to Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, two years of his imprisonment were enforceable.

On July 15, 2021, Alikordi was taken into custody by agents of the Mashhad Intelligence Office and was sent to prison to serve his sentence.

He is serving both sentences in Vakilabad prison in Mashhad.
