In May 2019, Negar Moazzam sang in front of tourists in the village of Abyaneh in Fars province. The video of her singing was published on social media and received considerable attention in a short time.
On May 21, 2019, Morteza Baserian, the then prosecutor of Natanz, announced that Moazzam had been summoned to court. She was arrested at the court and was released on bail two days later.
Shortly after her arrest, Moazzam left Iran for Turkey with her husband, Mehran Bigharz.
On July 30, 2019, Moazam released a video showing her performing the song "Black-tailed Crow" in Istanbul with Iranian singer Shohreh Solati, the same song she sang in Abyaneh.
In September 2009, the Fars news agency, owned by the Revolutionary Guard, quoted the Natanz prosecutor saying that Moazzam was sentenced to one year in prison for "illegal singing in the village of Abyaneh." He said that the verdict had been served to her lawyer and that if the accused had escaped, the bail would be confiscated in accordance with the law.
