Pourya Mazroub In prison

Pouria Mazroub is an Iranian songwriter. He was sentenced to prison for his online activities. Prior to his arrest, Mazroub also worked as a wood carver.

Mazroub was arrested by agents of the Ministry of Intelligence in Tehran in the winter of 2019 and transferred to Ward 209 of Evin Prison, which is controlled by the Ministry of Intelligence.

At the end of the interrogations, he was charged with "blasphemy," "inciting people to war and killing each other with the intent to disrupt national security" and "membership and activity in an opposition group".

The charges were filed because of Mazroub's online activities.

No information is available on the date of his trial. However, human rights organizations said his case had been heard in the Revolutionary Court of Tehran and he had been sentenced to a total of seven years in prison on three charges.

The HRANA human rights website, without mentioning the details of the case, suggested that Mazroub could be sentenced to five years in prison under Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code. This site also wrote in a report in January 2016 that Mazroub is serving his sentence in the public ward of Evin Prison.
