Shakila Monfared In prison

Shakila Monfared is a royalist (a supporter of the former Pahlavi regime) and a civil rights activist residing in Tehran. Monfared was born in 1993 and was reportedly arrested for her activities on Twitter.

On August 31, 2020, Revolutionary Guard intelligence agents arrested Monfared at the airport and transferred her to Ward A of Evin prison in Tehran.

Monfared was transferred to the public ward of Evin Prison on September 9, after being interrogated, and was released on a 400 million toman bail, less than a week later, on September 14.

Following the court hearings, Monfared was arrested again on January 20, 2021 in Branch 26 of the Revolutionary Court of Tehran.

Monfared was charged with "propaganda against the regime" and “blasphemy" and was sentenced to one year and five years in prison for each charge, respectively. Arsham Rezaei and Mohammad Abolhassani are two other defendants in Monfared’s case.

Exact details leading to the charges against these three people were not released. According to reports, their pro-royalist activities on Twitter led to their arrest.

The other two defendants were each sentenced to 15 months in prison and four months of forced labor in the Ministry of Agriculture, for four hours a day, on charges of "propaganda against the regime." According to the Islamic Penal Code, this charge is punishable by a maximum of 12 months in prison. According to HRANA, the increase in the sentences of the two defendants appears to have been based on Article 138. Rezaei's sentence was later reduced to 11 months in the Court of Appeals and Abolhassani's sentence was upheld.

In late March 2021, Branch 36 of the Tehran Court of Appeals reduced Monfared's sentence to four years and two months in prison.
In May 2021, Monfared was exiled from the women's ward of Evin Prison to Qarchak Prison in Varamin.

On June 7, 2021, HRANA reported that a number of common criminals instigated by a prison staff insulted and assaulted Monfared.

Monfared was sent on a short leave on August  23, and returned to Qarchak prison in Varamin two weeks later on September 7, 2021.
