Washington Post correspondent Jason Rezaian's arrest had nothing to do with his being a journalist, according to Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i, a spokesman for Iran's judiciary.
He said many foreign journalists were in the country and in many cases, they had been invited by the government of Iran
Mohseni-Eje'i declined to comment on the details of the case against Rezaian, who has been imprisoned in Iran for more than one year.
Four closed-door hearings have been held in Rezaian's trial. A verdict could come already this week.
