Prominent Iranian television producer and writer Mostafa Azizi, who is serving an eight-year sentence in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison, is in a bad health condition and has not received medical help.

Azizi has been suffering from asthma before his arrest in February 2015, but due to a sinus infection his asthma has recurred and worsened the last couple of days. He suffers from serious and continuous coughs and chest pain, and he can hardly speak.

He has not received medical help, according to a report from the Human Rights Activists News Agency in Iran.

Ward 8 of Evin Prison, where Azizi is detained, is like an exile for political prisoners. Due to lack of space it is crowded and hot, and many prisoners in the ward are suffering from respiratory problems.

Azizi, who is a Canadian resident, was arrested in February 2015 when visiting family in Iran. He was tried in June 2015 and sentenced to eight years in prison on charges of “collusion against Iran” and “insulting the Supreme Leader.” Before his trial took place, he spent a month in Cell Block 2A of Evin Prison where he was harshly interrogated.
