Americans Seek Deal to Swap Jason Rezaian

Unnamed Americans have contacted Iran to arrange a prisoner swap deal for Jason Rezaian, the Washington Post reporter jailed in Iran on spying charges, according to a senior Iranian official.

“Some Americans contact us sometimes, asking us to exchange him with other detainees, but the sentence has not been announced yet,” judiciary spokesman Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei was quoted as saying by Iran’s semi-official Fars news agency.

Some Iranian officials, including President Hassan Rouhani and speaker of parliament Ali Larijani, have hinted at the possibility that Rezaian could be freed in exchange for Iranian prisoners in the United States, but others have denied the possibility of such a swap.
