In the Islamic Republic of Iran, journalists regularly face charges of espionage and other serious crimes. The regime targets them because of their job, which by its nature involves publishing news and information for public consumption. And this situation is exacerbated for Iranian journalists who work internationally. While she was in prison, interrogators accused Fereshteh Ghazi of spying because she had traveled to Afghanistan to report on the war there.
