Local papers allege he was detained because of a cartoon that someone posted on his Facebook page.
Moazeni, who pledged his support to the reformist presidential candidate Mehdi Karroubi in the disputed 2009 elections, was arrested by Intelligence Ministry agents at the City Council of Bushehr on September 27th 2011.
Throughout his career as a journalist, Moazeni worked for several local, independent publications such as Birami, Avab Baharestan, Daryay-e Jonoub, and Salam Jonoub. He is also the author of several books that cover topics such as the history of photography, the history of cinema in his hometown of Bushehr and football.
Several local newspapers reported that he was arrested because someone posted a cartoon on his Facebook page, which caused him to be accused of insulting the regime. After the 2009 election, Moazzeni wrote articles that supported the Green Movement.
Before he was arrested, security officials prevented him from teaching at Bushehr University. Moazeni was only allowed one brief phone call to his mother during the first 15 days of his detention. Although he was initially released on bail, he was re-arrested on December 25th 2011, and then re-released on bail. Reliable information about his case and the charges against him is difficult to come-by.
