On August 13, 2021, Gholizadeh's house was searched by agents of the Revolutionary Guard Intelligence Organization, and her phone, laptop, and books were confiscated. She did not have access to her phone and personal social media accounts, more than a month later.
In a leaflet shown to Gholizadeh during the raid on her house, she was charged with "propaganda against the regime."
Also shortly after the search, Gholizadeh was repeatedly summoned to a Revolutionary Guard office in central Tehran and interrogated. Officers told her she no longer had the right to interview television channels outside Iran and also threatened to detain her if she broke the news of her summons and search.
Gholizadeh has been unemployed for the last two years, protesting the government control of Iranian newspapers and the lack of independence for publishing investigative reports, and has shared her views on social media.
