Bouzari’s arrest took place while he attended a court session following a summons. According to reports, security agents raided his home the night before and confiscated some of his belongings, including his laptop. At that time, he was a staff member at Shargh (“the East”) newspaper. He was released on bail a month later. The court sentenced him to two years in prison and lashes. He was given the lashes in Evin Prison, where he was supposed to serve the time as well. Three months later, his name appeared among 60 political prisoners who were granted a pardon from the Supreme Leader. The charge against him was never publicly disclosed.
