Farhad Roozban Released

Farhad Roozban is a journalist and editor-in-chief of the news site “Sulduz Khabar.”

Roozban was arrested by security forces in the city of Naqadeh, formerly known as Sulduz, on September 5, 2021.

Following the journalist's arrest, the Sulduz news Telegram channel was renamed to "Paygah" and some news content published in the channel were deleted.

No information has been released on the reasons for Roozban's arrest. According to the information provided to Journalism is Not a Crime, it is possible that his arrest was related to the clashes in the village of Sakhsi-Tappeh in Naqadeh county in early days of September and the reports published about this incident on the Sulduz Khabar Telegram channel.

Clashes in Sakhsi-Tappeh Village
On September 3, 2021, an old dispute between two neighbors over a property in the village of Sakhsi-Tappeh in West Azerbaijan Province led to a clash between the two sides, in which one person was killed and five others were injured.

Following the escalation of the clashes, the Attorney-General of Naqada told the media that eight people had been arrested.

Hojjat Esmatzadeh, a civil activist living in Naqadeh, was also arrested. At the same time, all local media outlets were pressured by security agencies to remove news about the incident from their websites. Telegram channels have been banned from publishing any further news about the matter.
