Tohid Beigi Released

Tohid Beigi spent 12 days in solitary confinement for photographing the demonstrations that took place after the results of the presidential election of 2009 were released.

He was one of five photographers to be arrested in very short succession. He was released on bail in July 2013.

Tohid Beigi was one of a number of photojournalists who were arrested on July 9th 2009, for taking photographs of the demonstrations that erupted during the aftermath of the disputed 2009 presidential election. Following Beigi’s arrest, he was taken to an unknown location.

Before Beigi’s arrest, four other photographers and one cameraman were arrested and held in unknown locations. At the time of his arrest, Beigi was working for the Mashrouteh News website, which had supported Mehdi Karroubi during his election campaign.

After spending 12 days in solitary confinement in Ward 240 of Evin Prison, Tohid Beigi was released on bail on July 21st, 2013.
